Day 153: 9/9/16 (Virtual AT 2020 Day 160)

It did rain last night, but not too much, though we did have to put away another wet tent. We got moving pretty quickly, and before we knew it we were on top of the first mountain of the day. Over the course of the first 6 miles we climbed 4 peaks, the final one being Whitecap. We moved pretty quickly, much faster than yesterday. We took a nice break on top of Whitecap before starting our long descent.

The rest of the day was a lot of downhill and kind of flat sections, with only one more climb after lunch to a short mountain with no views. We took a nice long lunch break by a stream. The sun was out so we were able to dry out the rainfly. It was just so relaxing, we both even took a short nap. Since we only have a few days left, we’re making the most of them.

Tonight we’re camping by the Cooper Brook Falls Lean-to. It’s a nice spot next to a brook, and there’s a nice swimming hole at the base of the cascades in front of the lean-to. We did 18.8 miles today, and we’re planning on even more tomorrow. We’re out of the hard part of the 100 mile wilderness, so we’ll be able to move a bit faster. It’s looking like a clear night tonight, so we’re hoping to see some stars.
